5 Minutes with ARTCH Artist Natalia Bagniewska

5 Minutes with ARTCH Artist Natalia Bagniewska

Can you tell us what you’re working on at the moment?

NB I am working towards a group show I am part of in May, based on nature. I'm looking back at my year in photos for inspiration, and am really enjoying changing my subject matter (still life, fruit to landscapes) but keeping my mark making and palette the same. A fun and satisfying challenge. I am also going to be showing at the Affordable Art Fair with Livingstone St Ives gallery in a few weeks time, so am having work framed and photographed for that.

Where do you find inspiration for your work?

NB Mainly by my surroundings; local markets, flower stalls and my home and ceramic collection.
-

What does a typical day look like for you?

NB My days always start with my son and husband, we have a play and make breakfast. Once he has gone to his child minders, I split my time between working from home and going into my studio at Kindred in west London. I am a graphic designer as well as an artist, so I juggle client work which is usually branding or stationery related, and painting for comissons, exhibitions and for myself. I feel really lucky that I get to do both these things as they fulfil me in different ways.

What’s hanging on your walls?

NB David Shrigley! I have a painting by Point Kantawat Pongsak who I discovered on the Iota Edit, I have lots of wall hangings and fabrics hanging on my walls too. I also love Gabrielle Penfold and have one of her works hanging above our bed.

Best exhibition you’ve seen recently?

NB I went to see the Turner prize at the Towner gallery in Eastbourne and was so moved and inspired by it. The artists showcased were incredible, their imagination and creativity really humbled me.
