Susanne du Toit

Susanne is a painter, printmaker and ceramicist, who has a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, and an MFA in printmaking and painting from Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, USA. She has exhibited widely across Europe and the USA, and in 2013 Susanne won the prestigious BP Portrait Award with a painting of her eldest son. 

Susanne has been keeping busy with commissions since then, having painted various personalities from the world of arts and entertainment, such as Timothy Spall, Stephen Campbell Moore and David Schwimmer. 

The theme of much of Susanne’s latest work is Motherhood. The subjects are her daughters, sharing intimate moments with their own children. Meanwhile, on the other side of the canvas is du Toit herself, grandmother and painter, reliving the harsh and formative experience of motherhood through these scenes.
